Welcome to Greytown Junior School, a cherished institution that has stood the test of time for 131 years!
I assumed the role of principal of this prestigious school in March 2020 and as the first female principal of colour, I recognise the weight of this enormous responsibility, and it is a privilege and an honour to be part of such a rich history and vibrant school community.
For over a century, our school has been a place of learning, growth, and discovery. Generations of students have walked these school halls, each contributing to our legacy of academic excellence and character development. As we celebrate our past, we also look forward to the future, embracing new ideas and innovations that enhance our educational experience.
Our mission is to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential. We believe in fostering a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom, encouraging curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and developing the necessary skills to navigate an ever-changing world. I am committed to maintaining high academic standards while also prioritising the social and emotional well-being of our students.
Extracurricular activities play a vital role in our students’ development, offering opportunities to explore interests beyond the classroom. Whether it’s through sports, arts, clubs, or community service, these programs foster teamwork, creativity, and leadership skills. I encourage all students to participate and discover new passions that can enhance their educational experience. We will continue to expand our offerings and welcome suggestions for new activities that reflect our diverse interests! Here at Greytown Junior School, we embrace the diversity of our school community and foster a school ethos that encourages kindness, respect, and growth.
To our parents and guardians, your involvement is crucial to our students’ success. We invite you to engage with us, attend events and volunteer your services. I value open lines of communication and encourage constructive feedback from all members of our school community. Together, we can create a robust support system that enhances our students’ educational experience.
Our dedicated teachers, support staff and SGB work tirelessly to ensure that our school continues to be a safe and welcoming place for all, and one that encourages collaboration and respect.
As we embark on this journey together, I am reminded of the powerful words of Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” It is this belief in the transformative power of education that drives my passion and commitment to our school community.
Let us work together to make this year positive and memorable for all our students.
Warm regards.
Mrs P. Moonsamy
